Duties of the Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion or EM include:
- Arrive in sufficient time prior to Mass to be recognized as present and prepared.
- Dress appropriately for duties during Mass.
- Receive/distribute the host/chalice as appropriate.
- Replace chalices and purificators behind the altar after consuming the remaining precious blood.
- Responsible for finding a substitute if not able to minister for the Mass which he or she is scheduled.
- Appropriately washes the sacred vessels after Mass.
